Fraud and impersonation warning
Criminals sometimes pretend to be lawyers or law firms to obtain money or personal information. This fraud warning explains how to check that you are really dealing with TRW & Co, what we will never ask you to do, and what to do if you are contacted by someone you suspect is impersonating us.
Last updated 24 October 2026
Why we publish this warning
Many of our clients and readers are overseas, including non-resident Bangladeshis and foreign businesses dealing with Bangladesh at a distance. That makes it easier for fraudsters to pose as a Dhaka law firm, a named lawyer, or a court or government official acting with a firm.
Scams of this kind can involve fake emails, cloned websites, social media profiles, WhatsApp or telephone calls, and forged letters or court documents. We cannot prevent every attempt, but we can tell you how to check.
Common warning signs
Be cautious if someone claiming to be from TRW & Co:
- asks you to pay money urgently, or threatens arrest, a court order or a travel ban unless you pay at once;
- asks you to pay into a personal bank account or a personal mobile financial service account such as a mobile wallet;
- tells you our bank details have "just changed", especially by email or messaging app;
- contacts you from a free email address or a domain that only looks like ours, such as one with an extra letter, hyphen or a different ending;
- offers to guarantee a court result, bail or a quick land or immigration outcome for a fee;
- asks for passwords, one-time codes, PINs or full card details;
- sends documents with spelling mistakes, unusual seals or signatures, or contact details that differ from those on this page.
How to verify that you are dealing with us
Our official contact points are:
- Website: trw.co (check the address bar carefully, and use the secure https connection)
- Email: addresses ending exactly in @trw.co, such as info@trw.co (automated confirmations come from no-reply@trw.co)
- Telephone: +880 1708 000660
- Office: House 410, Road 29, Mohakhali DOHS, Dhaka 1206, Bangladesh (visits by appointment)
If in doubt, do not reply to the message or use any number or link in it. Instead, contact us independently using the details above, typed in yourself or taken from this page, and ask us to confirm that the message, person or document is genuine.
Our founding partners are Barrister Tahmidur Rahman and Barrister Remura Meheruba Mahbub, and our partner is Advocate Syed Wahid. If someone claims to act for us under another name, please check with us before acting.
Payments: what we will and will not do
Payments for consultations booked online are made through our booking system at trw.co/book, which uses the SSLCommerz payment gateway. For other work, payment arrangements are set out in writing in our engagement terms.
- We will never ask you to pay fees into a personal bank account or a personal mobile wallet.
- We will never change our bank details by email or message alone. Before making any transfer, call us on +880 1708 000660 to confirm the account details.
- We will never ask for your card PIN, online banking password or one-time code.
If you receive an invoice or payment request that looks unusual, do not pay until you have checked it with us by telephone. A short call can prevent a loss that may be impossible to recover.
Fake court documents and official demands
Fraudsters sometimes send fake summonses, warrants, notices or decrees, or claim that a case has been filed against you in Bangladesh and can be settled for a payment. Genuine court process follows the procedures of the relevant court and is not settled by paying an individual over the telephone.
If you receive a document that appears to come from a Bangladeshi court or authority, you can ask a lawyer to verify it. Our case-journey guides explain typical procedures so you can spot something that does not fit.
If you think you have been targeted
- Stop: do not pay, reply, click links or open attachments.
- Keep evidence: save emails with full headers, messages, telephone numbers, account details and documents.
- Contact us: email info@trw.co or call +880 1708 000660 to report it, so we can confirm whether the contact is genuine and warn others where appropriate.
- If you have paid: contact your bank or mobile financial service provider immediately and ask them to stop or recall the payment.
- Report it: in Bangladesh, report it to the police (the national emergency number is 999 for urgent situations). If you are abroad, report it to the police or the fraud reporting service in your country.
Forgery (section 21) and fraud (section 22) committed through cyberspace are offences under the Cyber Protection Act 2026 (Act 81 of 2026), in addition to offences under the Penal Code 1860.
Our position
TRW & Co is not responsible for communications, requests or payments that did not come from us or that were not made through our official channels. We will, however, cooperate with you and with the authorities to help investigate any impersonation of the firm or our lawyers.
We may take action to have fake websites, profiles or domains that use our name removed. If you see one, please send us the web address, a screenshot and the date you saw it, so that we can act quickly.
Your vigilance helps protect other clients and readers. If something feels wrong, it costs nothing to call us and check before you act.
