01

How our legal services in Bangladesh are organised

TRW & Co provides legal services in Bangladesh across six integrated fields. Each field has its own page with the practice areas, articles and people behind it. The directory above lists every practice page we publish.
The fields are designed around how clients experience legal problems, not around internal departments. A single instruction often draws on several of them, and the responsible lawyer brings in colleagues as needed.
02

Disputes and arbitration

Commercial litigation in the High Court Division, writ petitions, appeals, and domestic and international arbitration under the Arbitration Act 2001. We advise on interim relief, enforcement of foreign awards and judgments, and the strategy for disputes that run in more than one forum.
See the dispute resolution page for the full list of practice areas.

03

Corporate and finance

Company formation, foreign direct investment, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, governance, banking and finance, capital markets and Islamic finance. Our legal services in Bangladesh for investors include the approvals that shape a transaction timetable, from Invest Bangladesh registration to Bangladesh Bank foreign exchange requirements.
04

Technology, IP and data

Technology contracts, telecommunications licensing, data protection, e-commerce, digital payments, trademarks, copyright and patents. We help technology businesses build in Bangladesh and protect what they build.
05

Projects and real estate

Energy and infrastructure projects, construction contracts, land acquisition, title verification, development agreements, leases and real estate disputes. Land and project work is where careful legal services in Bangladesh save the most time and money later.
06

Trade, competition and regulation

Customs and trade, export and import licensing, competition law, sector regulation and compliance, including the changes that follow Bangladesh’s graduation from least developed country status.
07

Private client and employment

Succession, probate, family property, trusts and waqf, matrimonial matters, immigration, and employment advice for employers and senior executives under the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006.
08

Choosing legal services in Bangladesh

When choosing legal services in Bangladesh, clients usually ask three questions: does the firm know this area of law, does it understand my commercial position, and can it act quickly when timing matters? We suggest asking any firm for the name of the lawyer who will run the matter and for examples of comparable work.
For foreign clients, it also helps to ask how the firm coordinates with counsel abroad. Legal services in Bangladesh rarely exist in isolation for international businesses; they must fit with financing documents, group policies and foreign proceedings.
Independent directories are a useful check. The Legal 500 publishes a profile of the firm for Bangladesh.
09

From first question to engagement

Begin with a short description of the matter and any deadlines. After a conflict check, we will propose a scope, team and fee arrangement. For urgent matters, such as an injunction or a regulatory deadline, tell us at once so that we can act within the time available.
You can also read our Bangladesh legal insights for background on most of the legal services in Bangladesh listed here.
10

Legal services in Bangladesh for investors

Foreign investors usually need several legal services in Bangladesh at once: choosing an entity, registering with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms, obtaining Invest Bangladesh registration, opening bank accounts, and meeting Bangladesh Bank requirements for share capital and repatriation.
Investors also need advice on tax, employment, leases or land, and sector licences. We plan these steps together so that the entity can trade, hire and remit profits as soon as possible after incorporation.
For background, read our guides to company formation and foreign investment in Bangladesh legal insights.
11

Legal services in Bangladesh for lenders and borrowers

Banks, development finance institutions and corporate borrowers rely on legal services in Bangladesh for facility agreements, security documents, registration of charges, mortgages over land, guarantees and intercreditor arrangements.
When a facility goes wrong, the same team advises on enforcement, recovery proceedings before the Artha Rin Adalat, and restructuring. Lenders benefit from advice that considers recovery at the time the security is taken.
12

Legal services in Bangladesh for disputes

Commercial disputes call for early decisions on forum, interim relief and evidence. Our disputes team advises on negotiation and settlement, litigation in the civil courts and the High Court Division, writ jurisdiction, domestic and international arbitration, and enforcement of judgments and awards.
For cross-border disputes, we coordinate with counsel abroad so that steps taken in Bangladesh support the overall strategy.
13

Legal services in Bangladesh for families

Families need legal services in Bangladesh for inheritance, probate and letters of administration, succession certificates, partition of family property, gift deeds and trusts, as well as marriage, divorce, maintenance and guardianship.
Non-resident Bangladeshis can instruct us through a power of attorney, and we explain the notarisation and attestation steps required in their country of residence.
14

Sector experience

Our practice spans the sectors that drive the Bangladeshi economy: banking and financial services, energy and infrastructure, technology and telecoms, manufacturing and garments, real estate and construction, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, and trade and logistics.
Sector knowledge helps us anticipate the regulator’s questions and the commercial terms that counterparties are likely to accept.
15

How the directory is maintained

Each practice page describes the law and our approach in a specific area. Pages are reviewed and updated as the law changes, and each one links to the relevant articles and to the lawyers who lead that work.
If you cannot find a practice area for your question, contact us. Our legal services in Bangladesh cover more ground than any directory can list, and we will tell you promptly if a matter falls outside our expertise.

Institutions you will meet

Most legal services in Bangladesh involve at least one of the institutions below. Knowing who decides what helps clients plan realistic timetables.
  • Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC): the registry for companies, partnerships and societies. Incorporation, annual returns, changes of directors and share transfers are filed here.
  • Invest Bangladesh: the single investment agency created under the Invest Bangladesh Act, 2026. It absorbed BIDA, BEZA and the PPP Authority in August 2026 and handles investment registration, economic zones and PPP projects through the BanglaBiz platform.
  • Bangladesh Bank: the central bank. Its foreign exchange regulations govern inward investment, loans from abroad, dividends and the repatriation of capital.
  • Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC): the capital markets regulator responsible for public offerings, listed companies, bonds and sukuk, and investment funds.
  • National Board of Revenue (NBR): the tax authority for income tax, VAT and customs duties.
  • Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC): the regulator for telecommunications, internet and related licences.
  • RAJUK: the capital development authority responsible for planning and building approvals in Dhaka.
  • High Court Division: part of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. It hears company matters, admiralty cases, writ petitions and appeals from lower courts.
  • Appellate Division: the highest court in Bangladesh, which hears appeals from the High Court Division.
  • Artha Rin Adalat: the specialised money loan courts that hear recovery suits brought by banks and financial institutions.
Our team deals with these institutions regularly and can explain what each will need from you before an application is filed.
17

How a typical matter runs

Although every matter is different, most follow the same broad path. First, we take instructions and review documents. Second, we give written advice on the options, risks, costs and timing. Third, we carry out the agreed work: drafting, filing, negotiating or appearing in court. Finally, we close the matter and confirm what the client needs to do to stay compliant.
Throughout, one responsible lawyer remains your point of contact. That is how we keep legal services in Bangladesh efficient for clients who are busy running a business or a family.
18

Legal services in Bangladesh after LDC graduation

Bangladesh’s scheduled graduation from least developed country status changes the legal landscape for exporters, investors and regulated businesses. Trade preferences, intellectual property obligations and subsidy rules are all affected.
We help clients understand which changes apply to them, what transition periods are available and how contracts, licences and compliance programmes should adapt. Planning early is the most effective way to protect market access.
19

Planning for regulatory change

Bangladeshi law changes frequently through Finance Acts, ordinances, Bangladesh Bank circulars and regulator notifications. Good legal services in Bangladesh therefore include monitoring as well as advice: telling clients when a change affects their licences, contracts, tax position or reporting obligations.
We publish updates on significant changes and brief clients directly when a development affects their business. For a regular overview, follow our analysis in Bangladesh legal insights.

In summary

Our legal services in Bangladesh are organised into six fields so that clients can find the right team quickly, and connected so that complex matters are handled as one. Each field page lists the practice areas, articles and people behind the work.
Whether you are investing, lending, building, hiring, protecting technology, resolving a dispute or planning for your family, start with the field closest to your question. If you are unsure, contact us and we will route your enquiry to the right partner after a conflict check. Good legal services in Bangladesh begin with asking the right first question.
Questions

Practices: answers.

What legal services in Bangladesh does TRW provide?
TRW provides legal services in Bangladesh across disputes and arbitration, corporate and finance, technology and data, projects and real estate, trade and regulation, and private client and employment.
How do I find the right practice area?
Start with the field closest to your question, or search the directory above. If you are unsure, book a consultation and we will route your enquiry to the right partner.
Can one team handle a matter that crosses several areas?
Yes. Each matter has one responsible lawyer who brings in specialists from other fields, so related work is handled as one programme.
Do you provide legal services in Bangladesh for foreign companies?
Yes. Foreign investors, lenders and multinational groups are a large part of our client base, and we coordinate with their counsel abroad.
Are the practice pages legal advice?
No. They explain the law and our experience in general terms. Advice on a particular matter follows a conflict check and an agreed engagement.
How quickly can you start work?
For most matters we can start within a day or two of a completed conflict check and agreed engagement. Urgent court applications can often be prepared the same day.
Do you work with in-house legal teams?
Yes. Many of our clients have in-house counsel. We adapt our reporting to their needs, from short email updates to board-ready memoranda, and we can second lawyers for defined projects.
Can you advise on foreign law?
We advise on Bangladeshi law. Where a matter needs advice on foreign law, we work with trusted counsel in that jurisdiction and coordinate the combined advice for you.
Which sectors do your legal services in Bangladesh cover?
Banking and finance, energy and infrastructure, technology and telecoms, manufacturing and garments, real estate, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, trade and logistics, and private wealth.
Do you handle matters outside Dhaka?
Yes. We act in courts and before authorities across Bangladesh, including Chittagong, and work with local counsel where a matter requires daily attendance in a district court.
How are your fees structured?
Fees are agreed in writing before work starts. Depending on the matter, they may be fixed, capped or time-based, with disbursements such as court fees and stamp duty charged at cost.
Can I get a second opinion?
Yes. Clients often ask us to review advice or a strategy proposed elsewhere. We will tell you candidly whether we agree and why.
Do you offer legal services in Bangladesh on a retainer basis?
Yes. Companies that need regular advice can agree a retainer covering defined services, such as contract review, regulatory updates and board support, with a predictable monthly or annual fee. Retainers are reviewed periodically to make sure they match the work actually needed.
Can you support due diligence for an acquisition?
Yes. We carry out legal due diligence on companies, land and projects in Bangladesh, covering corporate records, licences, contracts, litigation, employment, tax and title, and report the findings in a format suitable for investment committees.
Do you advise government bodies and development partners?
Yes. We advise public bodies, development finance institutions and international organisations on projects, procurement, financing and regulatory questions in Bangladesh, subject to conflict checks and any applicable procurement rules.
Can you help a startup raise investment?
Yes. We advise founders and investors on company structure, share issues, convertible instruments, shareholder agreements and the Bangladesh Bank and regulatory steps that apply when foreign investors subscribe for shares.
