Background

How amendments of the Constitution of Bangladesh work

Amendments of the Constitution of Bangladesh are made under Article 142, by an Act passed with the votes of at least two-thirds of the total members of Parliament. Parliament passed seventeen amendments between 1973 and 2018. The Supreme Court later struck down or partly voided several of them, and the 2024 to 2026 rulings restored earlier provisions without any new amendment.
