Who this is for
Why it matters now
Bangladesh power of attorney from abroad
A Bangladesh power of attorney from abroad used to stall on one point: the grantor's Bangladeshi passport. A gazette published on 12 February 2025 amended the Power of Attorney Rules 2015 so that a power executed outside Bangladesh can now rely on a Bangladeshi passport, a foreign passport carrying a No Visa Required (NVR) endorsement, a national ID card or a birth certificate [4]. The same amendment requires the authenticated power and its copies to be sent to Bangladesh within six months of authentication [4]. For many owners abroad, that removes the need to renew a passport before acting on family land.
The paperwork still has to be right. Bangladesh missions expect the prescribed format (Schedule Ka, Form 3), signature by the grantor in front of a consular officer, and supporting land papers such as the khatian, title deed, mutation copy and latest tax receipt [1][2]. Where land came from a deceased parent, missions ask for the death certificate and succession papers [1][2]. Back in Bangladesh, the power is verified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and stamped [7], and a power covering land, flats or other immovable property must be registered; Dhaka plots and flats under RAJUK also need its prior approval [4].
Families are also changing. The Visa Policy 2026, which replaces the Visa Policy 2006, was approved by the cabinet in August 2026 and reported to take effect immediately [6]. As reported, its NVR route covers foreign nationals of Bangladeshi origin, their second- and third-generation descendants and their foreign spouses and children, with proof of the family link such as a dual nationality certificate, a Bangladeshi passport, an NID or an online birth registration certificate [5]. Fees and conditions should be confirmed with your mission before you apply. Getting the parent's or grandparent's Bangladeshi records in order first usually decides how smoothly an application goes.
What is included
What our bangladesh power of attorney from abroad service includes
We confirm what your attorney must be able to do (sell, buy, lease, mutate, collect a succession certificate, deal with RAJUK or a bank), whether the power should be general, specific or irrevocable, and which Bangladesh mission you will use.
We draft the power in Bangla and English to the format missions expect (Schedule Ka, Form 3), describe the land by mouza, khatian and dag numbers, and check identity details against your passport, NID or birth certificate.
A checklist for your High Commission, Embassy or Consulate appointment: number of copies, photographs, identity documents, land papers, and death or succession papers where land is inherited, so the consular officer can authenticate the power at the first visit.
Bangladesh has been party to the Apostille Convention since 30 March 2025, so foreign public documents such as a UK death or marriage certificate may be apostilled. We tell you which supporting papers need an apostille and which need mission attestation.
Our Dhaka team takes the authenticated power through Ministry of Foreign Affairs verification, stamping and, where it covers immovable property, registration at the competent office, while tracking the six-month window for sending it to Bangladesh.
For Dhaka plots and flats we prepare the RAJUK approval request for appointing or cancelling an attorney, and for bank or share matters we confirm the institution's own power of attorney requirements before your attorney attends.
We trace the family link back to a Bangladeshi parent or grandparent, assemble proof such as birth registration, an NID or a dual nationality certificate, and prepare each NVR application for submission at your mission.
We build in limits, reporting duties and an end date, and on instruction prepare a deed of cancellation with notices to the land office, sub-registry and any buyer, so an old power cannot be misused.
How it works
Bangladesh power of attorney from abroad, step by step
- Consultation and document checkDay 1-3
Book a 40-minute international consultation. We review your land papers, identity documents and what your attorney needs to do, then confirm the scope and the fixed fee in writing before any drafting starts.
- Draft and approve your Bangladesh power of attorney from abroadWeek 1
We send a Bangla and English draft with a plain-English note on each power granted. You and your attorney approve it, and we produce final unsigned sets in the format your mission accepts.
- Sign at the missionYour appointment date
You attend your High Commission, Embassy or Consulate in person and sign before a consular officer. Service times vary by mission; the Dubai Consulate General, for example, lists ordinary attestation within three working days [2].
- Send the originals to BangladeshWithin six months of authentication
You courier the authenticated originals to our Dhaka office. The amended Rules require the authenticated power to reach Bangladesh within six months of authentication [4], so we log the date and chase delivery with you.
- Verification, stamping and registrationAfter arrival, depending on the authority
We complete Ministry of Foreign Affairs verification and stamping, then registration for powers over land, and send you scanned copies with a short note on exactly what your attorney may now do.
- NVR applications for the familyIn parallel
For children, grandchildren and spouses we prepare NVR files with proof of the Bangladeshi link and the mission's forms. We confirm the mission's current fee and conditions first and flag anything likely to slow a file, such as mismatched names across generations.
One fixed fee covers drafting, the mission signing pack and Dhaka attestation and registration for one power; each NVR application is a separate fixed fee. The price depends on the number of properties and grantors and whether RAJUK approval is needed. Mission, stamp, registration and NVR fees are passed through at cost, and the fee is confirmed in writing before work starts.
We confirm the fee in writing before any work starts. Government fees, court fees and stamp duty are passed through at cost.Questions
Bangladesh power of attorney from abroad: questions
Can I make a Bangladesh power of attorney from abroad without a Bangladeshi passport?
Yes, since the February 2025 amendment to the Power of Attorney Rules 2015. For powers executed outside Bangladesh, rule 10 now accepts a Bangladeshi passport, a foreign passport with an NVR endorsement for people of Bangladeshi origin, a national ID card or a birth certificate [4]. Your mission may still ask for other proof of Bangladeshi identity, so we check its current list before your appointment [1]. If your NID or birth registration contains errors, fix them first, because the details on the power must match your identity document.
Does Bangladesh accept an apostille instead of embassy attestation?
Bangladesh joined the 1961 Apostille Convention, which entered into force for it on 30 March 2025 [3]. An apostille can therefore authenticate foreign public documents, such as a UK death certificate, that you use alongside your power. The power itself is still executed under the Power of Attorney Rules, which route signature through a Bangladesh mission [4]. Practice at registering offices may develop, so we confirm the accepted route for your transaction before you sign rather than risk a rejected document.
Does every power of attorney need to be registered in Bangladesh?
No. A power dealing with land, flats or other immovable property must be registered, while other powers generally need notarisation only [4]. For residential, commercial, industrial or institutional plots and flats in Dhaka under RAJUK, appointing or cancelling an attorney also needs RAJUK's prior approval [4]. We tell you at the scoping stage which category your power falls into, so you sign the right version once and avoid a second mission appointment.
How long does the process take from abroad?
It depends mostly on your mission's appointment slots and on courier time. Missions publish their own service times: the Dubai Consulate General lists ordinary attestation within three working days and a same-day urgent service [2], and the London High Commission's July 2026 notice offered same-day delivery for powers signed at its outreach event [1]. After the power reaches Bangladesh, verification, stamping and registration depend on the authority. The amended Rules require the power to be sent home within six months of authentication [4].
Who qualifies for NVR under the Visa Policy 2026?
The policy was approved by the cabinet in August 2026 and reported to take effect immediately [6]. As reported, the NVR route covers foreign nationals of Bangladeshi origin, their second- and third-generation descendants, and their foreign spouses and children, subject to conditions [5]. Proof of the family link can include a dual nationality certificate, a Bangladeshi machine-readable or e-passport, an NID, an online birth registration certificate or a citizenship certificate [5]. Fees, processing times and any police verification requirements should be confirmed with your Bangladesh mission before you apply.
Can my attorney sell my land while I stay abroad?
Yes, if the power expressly authorises sale and has been registered as required for immovable property [4]. Buyers and sub-registry offices look at whether the land papers are current, so we usually recommend checking the khatian, mutation and tax receipts before the power is signed. We can also limit the power to a named buyer, a minimum price or an end date, and add a duty to report to you, which reduces the risk of misuse.
