BIAC Fee Calculator: What a BIAC Arbitration Costs
This BIAC fee calculator works out the fees the Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre (BIAC) charges on a claim: the registration fee, the administrative fee and the range of the arbitrator’s fees, on the standard schedule or the fast track, with 15% VAT. Every figure comes from BIAC’s published schedule and shows how it was calculated.

What the BIAC fee calculator covers
A BIAC arbitration has three institutional cost lines. The registration fee is fixed. The administrative fee and the arbitrator’s fee both depend on the amount in dispute.
BIAC publishes two schedules: Annex 1 for standard arbitrations and Annex 2 for fast track cases under Rule 28 of the BIAC Arbitration Rules 2019. Both are in Bangladesh Taka, both state that 15% VAT applies under government rules, and BIAC reserves the right to change the amounts without notice, so confirm the live schedule before filing.
The amount in dispute drives the administrative fee and the arbitrator’s fees. Claims and counterclaims are added together, interest counts only where it exceeds the principal, and a foreign-currency claim is converted at Bangladesh Bank’s mean rate. The BIAC fee calculator applies each of those rules for you.

How the BIAC fee calculator works out the fees
Every figure the BIAC fee calculator uses is taken from BIAC’s published Fees of Arbitration page, checked on 27 October 2026.
Registration
Tk 20,000 with the Notice of Arbitration (Tk 15,000 on the fast track). Non-refundable. The respondent pays the same on a counterclaim and on an extension request under Rule 13(4).
Amount in dispute
Claim plus counterclaim plus set-off. Interest counts only if it exceeds the principal. Foreign currency at Bangladesh Bank’s mean rate. The BIAC fee calculator applies all three rules.
Administrative fee
A flat sum or a base plus a percentage of the amount above the band floor, capped at Tk 2,55,000 on the standard schedule.
Arbitrator’s fees
A minimum and maximum per band, applying only where both parties agree to the scale. BIAC may exceed it in exceptional circumstances.
VAT
15% under government rules, as the schedule states.
Deposits
Each party pays its share in cash; above Tk 5 lakh, a bank guarantee may cover the excess. Liability for costs is joint and several.

What the BIAC fee calculator relies on
- Every band, base and percentage in both annexes, from BIAC’s Fees of Arbitration page.
- The amount-in-dispute rules: counterclaims, set-off, interest, foreign currency and unquantified claims (same page).
- The fast track threshold of Tk 50 million and the three-month award period, from Rule 28 of the BIAC Arbitration Rules 2019.
What we could not confirm
- How BIAC prices a three-member tribunal. The schedule gives one scale; the BIAC fee calculator multiplies it by three as an illustration.
- Whether VAT is charged on every line. The schedule says only that 15% VAT applies as per government rules.
- In the Tk 10 crore to Tk 50 crore band, the published maximum reaches Tk 30,50,000 at the top of the band, above the next band’s starting maximum of Tk 24,50,000. We apply the table as published.
BIAC fee calculator: frequently asked questions
Short answers on the points that come up most when using the BIAC fee calculator to budget a claim.
What fees does BIAC charge to start an arbitration?
The claimant pays a non-refundable registration fee of Tk 20,000 with the Notice of Arbitration under the standard schedule, or Tk 15,000 on the fast track. BIAC will not proceed until it is paid. An assessment fee of Tk 5,000 applies where documents are first submitted for assessment. The administrative fee and the arbitrator’s fees are then collected as deposits once the case is registered.
Is VAT payable on BIAC fees?
BIAC’s schedule states that 15 per cent VAT applies as per government rules. The BIAC fee calculator adds VAT to every scheduled amount by default; untick the box to see the figures before VAT, and confirm the VAT treatment of each invoice with BIAC.
How does BIAC calculate the amount in dispute?
Claims and counterclaims are added together, and set-off defences are usually included as well. Interest is left out unless the interest claimed exceeds the principal, in which case the interest alone is used. Foreign-currency claims are converted at the mean of Bangladesh Bank’s buying and selling rates. Where the claim is unquantified, the Secretary General fixes the fees.
Are the arbitrator’s fees fixed?
No. BIAC publishes a minimum and a maximum for each band, and the scale applies only where both parties agree to it. Where they do not, fees are agreed with the tribunal. BIAC may also exceed the scale in exceptional circumstances, for example where the parties run the case in a way the tribunal could not reasonably have expected when appointed.
How are fees set for a three-member tribunal?
BIAC’s published schedule gives a single arbitrator’s fee scale and does not publish a separate figure for a three-member tribunal. The BIAC fee calculator shows the scale multiplied by three as an illustration only. Confirm the position with the BIAC Secretariat before you budget a three-member case.
When can a case use the fast track schedule?
Under Rule 28 of the BIAC Arbitration Rules 2019, any party may ask BIAC in writing, before the preliminary conference, to treat the case as a fast track arbitration where the amount in dispute, including claim, counterclaim and defence, does not exceed Tk 5 crore. If BIAC agrees, the award is due within three months of the tribunal’s constitution, and the Annex 2 fees apply.
Who pays the deposits?
Each party pays its share of the deposits in cash, and a party whose share exceeds Tk 5,00,000 may post a bank guarantee for the excess. The parties are jointly and severally liable for the costs, so if the respondent does not pay, the claimant usually has to cover the shortfall to keep the case moving. The tribunal decides at the end who ultimately bears the costs.
Does the estimate include lawyers’ fees and expenses?
No. The BIAC fee calculator covers BIAC’s scheduled fees only. Hearing rooms, experts, interpreters, travel and other disbursements are invoiced separately as arbitration expenses, and counsel fees are a separate cost. Our guide to the cost of arbitration in Bangladesh explains how those add up.
This BIAC fee calculator gives an estimate of BIAC’s scheduled fees as published on 27 October 2026. It is general information, not legal advice or a quotation from BIAC, and BIAC may change its fees without notice. Confirm the current schedule with the BIAC Secretariat before filing.
