How it works

From filing to result, in motion.

Four journeys through the Supreme Court: a day’s cause list, getting a matter listed, a writ petition, and an appeal to the Appellate Division. Press play, or step through.

Questions

Frequently asked.

What is a cause list?

A cause list is the court's published list of the cases each bench will take up on a given day, in order, with serial (item) numbers. The Supreme Court of Bangladesh publishes a list for the Appellate Division and one for each High Court Division bench on its website.

How far back does the archive go?

As far as the court's own website goes: Appellate Division lists from 23 February 2012 and High Court Division lists from May 2016. Every list is stored on trw.co as the court published it, with its results. The most recent years are complete first and earlier years are being added in the background.

How current is it?

Today's lists are re-read about every 15 minutes, so results entered during the day appear shortly after. Tomorrow's lists appear once the court publishes them, usually in the evening, and recent days are re-read each night so late results are captured.

Where do the judge profiles come from?

From the judges' pages the Supreme Court publishes: sitting judges of both divisions with their published biographies, former judges of both divisions, and former Chief Justices. Each profile is linked to every bench the judge sat on in the stored cause lists, so you can see their sittings by year, courtrooms, the judges they sat with, case types and results entered. The retirement date shown for sitting judges is the date they turn 67, under article 96 of the Constitution.

Can I see the history of one case?

Yes. Open Find a case and enter the number, or press History under any matter. You see every date it was listed, the bench and judges, the item number and the result entered.

Can I print a list?

Yes. Each bench has a printable view in the court's two-column layout, a page-by-page view on numbered A4 pages, a version with results, and a CSV download. The whole day is also available as CSV, with a printable bench index.

My case is not in the cause list. What does that mean?

It may not be fixed for that day, it may be in the other division, or it may need to be mentioned before the bench to be listed. Check the next working day and the court's case search for the last order and next date, and speak to your advocate.

Is this the official cause list?

No. The official lists are those published by the Supreme Court, and what binds the parties is the court's order. Use the "Official list" link on each bench to check the source, and get a certified copy of any order you need to rely on.

What does the watchlist do?

Star a matter, or search a case number and press Watch. The page then checks every bench for it each time you open it, on this device. You can also ask for an email whenever it is listed: we send one confirmation email per matter, and every alert has a one-click stop link.

Is there an advocate diary or calendar feed?

Yes. Advocate diary lists every matter in which a name appears as advocate, across all benches and dates, and gives a calendar feed you can subscribe to in Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar.

Can TRW & Co check a listing and appear for me?

Yes. Our advocates appear before both divisions of the Supreme Court. You can book a consultation at trw.co/book/.

Need an advocate before the Supreme Court?

TRW & Co advocates appear before the Appellate Division and the High Court Division. Send us your case number and we will check the listing and advise.
