High Court Division · Special Original Jurisdiction
Md. Liakot Ali v Bangladesh Bank and others
Writ Petition 8491/2026 · Rule disposed of with direction · Decided 7 September 2026
The petitioner filed a writ petition under article 102 of the Constitution against Bangladesh Bank and others. He had submitted a representation to Bangladesh Bank (respondent No. 1) on 24.06.2026 seeking a direction to respondent Nos. 2 and 3 to extend his loan repayment period, and complained that Bangladesh Bank had not disposed of it. The Rule issued on 03.08.2026 asked why that inaction should not be declared to be without lawful authority and why the respondents should not be directed to receive the outstanding amount from him in four equal instalments within one year. The High Court Division took the view that justice would best be served, for the present, by directing Bangladesh Bank to dispose of the representation in accordance with law. It did not make any direction on the prayer for payment by instalments. The Rule was disposed of accordingly, with no order as to costs.
- Whether Bangladesh Bank should be directed to dispose of the petitioner's pending representation about the non-extension of his loan repayment period.
- Where Bangladesh Bank had not disposed of a borrower's representation about the non-extension of his loan repayment period, the appropriate relief for the present was a direction to dispose of it in accordance with law.
- The Court made no direction on the prayer that the respondents be required to accept the outstanding amount in instalments, confining relief to the disposal of the representation.
- The Rule was disposed of without any order as to costs.
we are of the view that the justice would be best served for now, if the respondent No. 1 is directed to dispose of the petitioner’s representation dated 24.06.2026 (Annexure- ‘E’) in accordance with law.
